Pécsi Tudományegyetem was founded in 1367. After vivid times the University merged in 2000 with other institutions of Higher Education to one of the largest institutions in Hungary having the widest range of academic programmes and research projects. The current number of students is more then 32.000 and 2.000 teaching staff occurs on them. The University of Pécs offers not only Hungarian classes, but also more than one hundred different classes in English, German, French, Russian, Italian and Spanish - also for undergraduates and for regular studies.

The University of Pécs has developed a strong international strategy. After initial TEMPUS contacts, the university has widened its international cooperations within the Erasmus framework with 150 active university contacts today. The university has been instrumental in establishing and maintaining contacts within international networks such as the Compostela Group, the Alps-Adria Working group, the EUA, the Danube Rectors' Conference, the Quadriga Europea Network, Copernicus Campus and AUDEM.
Mrs. Katalin Pelcz is deputy director of the International Studies Centre since 2001 after studying Hungarian and teaches the language to foreign students for several years now. During her studies she spend half a year at a German university and has therefore also experienced "to be a stranger". The University of Pecs will contribute to the needs analysis the development and didactical design of the Online Learning . Further, she will give input into the evaluation and dissemination process of the project.
