The institute has gained experiences in a number of interdisciplinary projects on regional, national and international level in the areas of Computer Mediated Education, Human Computer Interaction and in the field of student mobility and internationalisation of higher and continuing education. The institute will contribute to the project mainly its expertise in the area of virtual learning communities, multimedia e-learning modules, electronic project management, quality assurance and coordination of short and long term student mobility. The institute will valorise results of the project using existing networks and will support the implementation of project results in international student mobility programmes. The director of the Institute Thomas Berger is member of working groups at the German Institute of Standardization and the International Standardization organisation, which develop Quality Standards in the area of E-Learning and is one of the authors of the first public available specification (DIN-PAS-1032-1), which was published this year. He is member of the SWING-group of the EAIE and has published a number of articles and papers in the area of virtual communities and new media applications.
