The ShopLab Toolbox is presented at the IST Conference 2003

[Place, Date]
Fulda, Germany 29. September 2003

[Text]
The ShopLab project presents its research results at the IST Conference (Information Society Technology) which will take place in Milan from the 2nd to the 4th of October 2003. The research project leaded by the University of Applied Sciences Fulda was selected together with 49 other projects out of 250 applicants from all over Europe. The IST Conference allows European research projects which are funded by the European Commission to present their research result to the international scientific community.

The ShopLab project provides retail shops with innovative and multi-media shopping solutions called the “ShopLab Toolbox”. One application of the “ShopLab Toolbox” is the “Interactive Mirror” which is presented at the IST Conference. The “Interactive Mirror” allows customers a virtual try-on of a shirt. This is realized by projecting a 3D model of a shirt onto the mirror image of the body. Customers can compose their own shirts by choosing colour, fabric, collar, shape and many other details. For the demonstration made-to-measure shirts from “Campe & Ohff Maßhemden”, Germany are used.

At the moment the ShopLab team is improving the existing ShopLab prototypes. It is planned to present new prototypes for a shirt shop and a sports shop at Cebit 2004. These prototypes will have a enhanced functionality.

The ShopLab project leaded by Prof. Dr. Karim Khakzar (University of Applied Sciences Fulda) is developing new innovative shopping environments. New shopping experiences are created by combining the advantages of shopping in both real and virtual environments. These new and personalized shopping services will help to increase the competitivness of retail shops against big chains all over Europe.
The ShopLab project started in September 2001. It is partly funded by the IST program of the European Commission. Project members are universities, research institutes and companies from five different European countries. ShopLab also cooperates with retail shops in Switzerland, France and Germany. The results of the project will be presented in autum 2004.
